Foodblog

I am the minority or shall I say, the expanding minority of the 21st century girls out there who does not like stepping in to a kitchen. Women from my mom's era are phenomenal cooks! We get a lot of things from are mama and the ability to cook isn't one of them.

Over the summer, I've worked with chefs and learned that cooking is an art and you are the artist. Frankly, the only thing that has always been in my way was INGREDIENTS. If I didn't have a particular ingredient then, my whole recipe is ruined (that was my excuse) Coming in second place would have to be cleaning. I have learned one valuable lesson: The first step to learn how to cook is to learn how to clean. Once you have that mindset going, no mess is too big or too small for you (that and I can't stand undone dishes in the sink)

I never thought I would blog about food. After all, all I know is how to eat not how to cook. Bless my boyfriends soul! Today I got off from work and hurried home with one goal. TO MAKE TUNA SANDWICHES. I kid you not. In Malaysia, I always got the Ayam Brand tuna you could get from 99 or 7-11 or anywhere else. However, it's totally different here. They have canned chunks of tuna in water. It looks nastier than it sounds. I don't like how watery it is.

  Skipping to the good part, I would like to share with you a recipe for a delicious, but simple tuna sandwich. You will need;

  • tuna fish in a can
  • mayonnaise
  • diced celery
  • diced red/white onion
  • diced sweet pickle/dill
  • lemon juice
  • avocado
  1. Prepare tuna fish in a mixing bowl
  2. Dump a generous amount of mayonnaise (however you like it, really)
  3. Throw in your diced celery, diced onions and diced pickles
  4. Mix all of that good stuff
  5. Splash some lemon juice for a little zest!
  6. Spread the tuna spread on to your toasted bread
  7. Add slices of avocados to finish
My directions aren't really quantitative because you can go all out with this how you like it. The portions differ as to the servings. I for one, love avocados. I like guacamole, I like avocado smoothie, avocado raw, salads with avocado. Rather than the regular tomato and lettuce, avocado is an alternative.

My brother and I loved the tuna spread I made and voila...

What a tumblresque tuna sandwich
On a completely different note, I purchased the infamous Sriracha hot sauce and I am impressed. This is one of the hot sauces out here in the US that does not bring me to shame. Unfortunately, it stands no chance against sambal belacan. It's one of the best $3.99 investment I have ever made. Maybe just maybe, I'll figure a recipe that involves the Scriracha hot sauce soon? Stay tuned!
